Jaylin Green, 11th grade, Data Science major

Jaylin Greene, a junior, is participating in “Mentoring in Medicine” hosted by our partners at Here to Here. Searching for a computer science internship, Jaylin was thrilled to learn that his Mentoring in Medicine program included a strong focus on technical & digital skill development in the context of public health and medical sciences. At work, Jaylin collaborated with college students from across the country, providing COVID-19 research corroboration for a university level research paper. As for what Jaylin got out of this experience, “I’ve learned not to judge a book by its cover when it comes to jobs. There will always be an opportunity to learn valuable skills and gain experiences. I hope this internship will boost my character and let future employers know my skills and accomplishments.”

Beginning this summer, Maya begins her journey in the medical sciences field supported by researchers, doctors, and scientists. Maya and her classmates recently connected with the leader of Einstein’s Social Medicine Community Health Outreach department to explore the role of social determinants, such as income and housing, on health outcomes. They discussed how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted Bronx residents. Maya states, “hopefully with this new knowledge, I can help save a life...I hope that I will be able to assist people with their health and share tips to improve their health.”

Starting this summer, Mya began her apprenticeship with Amazon in their business operations track. She will continue working with Amazon throughout the school year. “Working with professionals of all ages really helped me because they gave me different advice,” Mya said of her network this summer. Adding on Mya says, “my confidence increased throughout this experience because I had to step out of my comfort zone. I am very confident that I can work in any workplace with professionals.”
